Oriya: Easy to Read Version

Oriya: Easy to Read Version (ORIWTC)

Overview

The Oriya Easy to Read Version (ERV) is a full Bible translation in Odia (also known as Oriya), produced by the World Bible Translation Center (WBTC). [1] The ERV is a dynamic-equivalence translation designed to express the full meaning of the original Hebrew and Greek texts in clear, accessible language, making it suitable for readers encountering Scripture for the first time. [2] The New Testament was first published in 2004, with the complete Bible (Old and New Testaments) following in 2006. [3] WBTC (later merged into Bible League International) has produced Easy-to-Read Version translations in over 60 languages worldwide. [1] In the ISO 639-3 standard, “ori” is a macrolanguage code encompassing several Oriya varieties, while “ory” designates the individual Odia language specifically; this edition is catalogued under the macrolanguage code ori. [4] The translation includes reading aids such as a glossary of difficult words and maps. [3]
