Overview

The Wayampi New Testament, titled Janejare’e Ayvukwerà, was completed and published by Wycliffe Bible Translators, with copyright registered in 2013. [1] Wayampi is a Tupi-Guarani language spoken by approximately 1,000 people in the states of Amapá and Pará in northeastern Brazil, primarily along tributaries of the upper Amapari River. [2] SIL International (Sociedade Internacional de Linguística) has been involved with the Wayampi people for linguistic documentation and Scripture development, with linguist Cheryl Jensen contributing to Wayampi language research from the early 1990s. [3] The Wayampi community in the Tumucumaque area is part of a multilingual indigenous church context where Biblical texts are read in multiple languages including Wayampi. [2]
