The Paumari New Testament (Deus Athi Kapapirani Hida) is a translation into Paumari, an Arawan language spoken by a small indigenous community along the Purus River in the Amazonas state of Brazil. The translation was carried out by Shirley Chapman and Meinke Salzer of Wycliffe Bible Translators / Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL), a process that spanned approximately 33 years and included the analysis of the previously unwritten Paumari language. ^[1] ^[2] A first edition containing the New Testament and four Old Testament books was published in 1996, with a revised New Testament edition following in 2010. ^[1] The translation work contributed to the establishment of an indigenous-led church among the Paumari people, and the community subsequently requested translation of the remaining Old Testament books. ^[1] Chapman, Salzer, and colleagues Mary-Anne Odmark and Beatrice Senn are recognized for their extensive linguistic documentation of the Paumari language alongside the translation effort. ^[2]
