San Marcos Tlalcoyalco Popoloca New Testament (PLSWBT)

Overview

The San Marcos Tlalcoyalco Popoloca New Testament, titled “Tti jian joajné Jesucristo” in the vernacular, is a 1982 translation of the New Testament into the Popoloca variety spoken in San Marcos Tlalcoyalco, Puebla, Mexico. ^[1] The translation was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators. San Marcos Tlalcoyalco Popoloca (ISO 639-3: pls) belongs to the Popolocan branch of the Oto-Manguean language family, within the Chocho-Popolocan subgroup. ^[2] The language is also known as Northern Popoloca and is spoken by approximately 5,000 people in the southern Puebla highlands. ^[2] It is classified as a threatened language. ^[2] This translation is one of two Popoloca New Testaments published in 1982, alongside the San Juan Atzingo Popoloca edition (POETBL), reflecting Wycliffe’s coordinated effort to provide Scripture for distinct Popoloca-speaking communities. The text is distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license. ^[1]
