Temalacayuca Popoloca New Testament (PPSWBT)

Overview

The Temalacayuca Popoloca New Testament (El Nuevo Testamento en el popoloca de San Luís Temalacayuca) is a translation of the New Testament into the San Luís Temalacayuca variety of Popoloca, an Otomanguean language spoken in the state of Puebla, Mexico. ^[1] The translation was produced by Wycliffe Bible Translators and published in 2010 by Bible League International. The language, known to its speakers as Ngigua, received a standardized alphabet in 2005, providing the orthographic foundation for this Scripture translation. ^[2]

Language and People

San Luís Temalacayuca Popoloca (ISO 639-3: pps) is spoken by approximately 6,900 people in the towns of San Luís Temalacayuca and San Marcos Tlacoyalco in eastern Puebla, Mexico. ^{[1] [3]} The Popolocan language family is part of the Otomanguean language stock and includes several related but distinct Popoloca varieties, as well as the Mazatec and Chocho languages. Like other Otomanguean languages, Popoloca is tonal. ^[2] The language is used as a first language by all members of the ethnic community. ^[2] [Glottolog: sanl1248]
