Paicî New Testament (PRIWBT)

Overview

The Paici New Testament, titled “Tii Pwiciri: Amu Aamwari naa na ci,” was published in 2012 by Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Association Bii Popai Waro in Poindimie, New Caledonia ^[1][2]. Paici is a Central-Eastern Oceanic language spoken by approximately 6,500 people across a 40-kilometer band in the center-north mainland of New Caledonia, between Poindimie and Ponerihouen on the east coast and Kone and Poya on the west coast ^[1]. It is one of the most vital of the approximately 30 Kanak languages in New Caledonia, though it faces increasing pressure from French, with growing numbers of children acquiring French as their dominant language ^[1]. The Paici New Testament represents the first complete Scripture translation in this language and is a significant milestone for language preservation efforts in the region ^[2].
