Patep New Testament (PTPWBT)
Overview
The Patep New Testament, titled “Yesu Xolac,” was published in 1986 by Wycliffe Bible Translators. Patep is an Austronesian language of the South Huon Gulf branch, part of the Buang linkage within the Mumeng dialect chain, spoken in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea [1][2]. SIL linguists Karen L. Adams and Linda M. Lauck conducted foundational phonological and grammatical research on Patep beginning in the 1970s, producing a tentative phonemic statement and other linguistic studies that supported the translation effort [3]. The language has a degree of mutual intelligibility with the neighboring Zenag and Gorakor varieties [2].
