Northern Conchucos Ancash Quechua New Testament (QXNWBT)

Overview

The Northern Conchucos Ancash Quechua New Testament, titled Señor Jesucristopa alli willacuynin, was published in 2002 by Wycliffe Bible Translators through Bible League International [1][2]. The translation was produced through the work of the Instituto Lingüístico de Verano (ILV/SIL), which began activities among the Northern Conchucos Quechua in 1981 [1]. Northern Conchucos Ancash Quechua is spoken by approximately 250,000 people in the eastern part of the Ancash department, from Pomabamba to San Luis, and in the northwestern portion of the Huánuco department in Huacrachuco [1][3]. The Conchucos region has a long history of Christian engagement, with Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo evangelizing the area in the late 1600s and Franciscan monks establishing the first church in Pomabamba; in the 1940s, Walter and Leif Erickson conducted evangelical campaigns that led to the formation of Pentecostal churches [1]. A complete Bible including the Old Testament was subsequently published in 2019 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, and a video of the life of Christ from the Gospel of Luke has been distributed in communities by trained catechists [1][2].
