Overview

The Botolan Sambal 2005 Edition (Hay halitá nin Diyos hay kawkanta boy kawkahalita-an) contains the New Testament along with Psalms and Proverbs in the Botolan Sambal language of the Philippines. The original New Testament translation was completed in 1982 by two missionaries working with Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] The New Testament and Psalms and Proverbs were previously published in separate editions by the International Bible Society in 1982 and 1988, and the combined 2005 edition was published by Bible League International. [1] Botolan Sambal is an Aeta (Negrito) language spoken in the Zambales Province of Luzon.

Language and People

Botolan Sambal (ISO 639-3: sbl) is spoken by approximately 32,900 to 35,000 people in Zambales Province, northern Philippines. [1] [2] The language is also known by the alternate names Aeta Negrito, Ayta Hambali, Botolan Zambal, and Sambali. [2] It is a Central Luzon language of the Austronesian family, spoken by the Aeta (Negrito) indigenous communities of western Luzon. [Glottolog: boto1242]
