Mapun New Testament (SJMWBT)
Overview
The Mapun New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into the Mapun language, completed in 1995 and copyrighted by Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2021. Mapun (also known as Sama Cagayan de Tawi-Tawi, Bajau Kagayan, or Cagayanen) is a Sama-Bajaw language belonging to the Austronesian family, classified under the Sulu-Borneo branch of Greater Barito. [1] The speakers, who call themselves Jama Mapun, are concentrated on Cagayan de Sulu (Mapun) island in Tawi-Tawi province, with additional communities in Sabah, Malaysia. [1] [2] The language has approximately 43,000 speakers in the Philippines and 58,000 total. [2]
