Siane Lambau New Testament (SNPSLV)

Overview

The Siane Lambau New Testament, titled “Goti Ukuwala Hala” in the vernacular, is a translation of the New Testament into the Lambau dialect of the Siane language of Papua New Guinea. [1] Published in 1997 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, the Lambau dialect is one of two literary standards for Siane, the other being Komongu. [2] The translation is available in print (ISBN 9780868933528) and through various digital platforms. Language and People

Siane (ISO 639-3: snp) is a Papuan language spoken in the Eastern Highlands Province, Goroka Sub-Province, of Papua New Guinea, at approximately 2,000 meters elevation. [2] [4] The Siane people numbered approximately 18,000 in 1975 and are estimated at roughly 29,000 today. [4] Siane belongs to the East-Central family of the East New Guinea Highlands Stock and has numerous dialects, including Hakoa, Kolepa, Yamofowe, Komongu, Lambau, Alango, and others, of which Komongu and Lambau serve as the two literary standards. [2] The Siane practice swidden agriculture, cultivating sweet potatoes, taro, yams, maize, and bananas, and organize into sixteen tribes with patrilineal clan structures. [4] [Glottolog: lamb1275]
