Today’s Sangir Version, 2003 (SXNLAI)
Overview
Today’s Sangir Version (Binohe Susi Balo Mapia) is a New Testament translation in the Sangir (Sangirese) language, published in 2003 by the Indonesian Bible Society (Lembaga Alkitab Indonesia). Sangir is an Austronesian language spoken on the Sangihe Islands, a chain of volcanic islands between the northern tip of Sulawesi and the southern Philippines. [1] Bible translation into Sangirese has a long history: the Dutch missionary E. T. Steller (1834-1897) translated the New Testament into the closely related Siau dialect in 1883, and a Sangir-language New Testament followed in 1942. [2] The 2003 edition represents a modern revision in contemporary Sangir, intended to be accessible to present-day readers across the Sangihe Islands Regency, the Siau Tagulandang Biaro Islands Regency, and the Talaud Islands Regency of North Sulawesi province.
