Tecpatlán Totonac 1997 Edition (TCWWTC)
Overview
The Tecpatlán Totonac Bible is a 1997 edition of the complete Bible (66 books) in Tecpatlán Totonac, a critically endangered Totonacan language of Mexico. [1] Tecpatlán Totonac belongs to the Totonacan language family, a cluster of closely related languages spoken in the central Mexican states of Veracruz and Puebla. [2] With approximately 540 speakers remaining, this translation represents a significant effort to preserve Scripture access for a very small language community. [1] The Totonac peoples have inhabited the Gulf Coast region of Mexico since pre-Columbian times, and the various Totonac languages are among the indigenous languages of Mesoamerica with the longest documented history of Bible translation activity by SIL International and affiliated organizations. [3]
