Tetun Dili Bible (TDTUBB)

Overview

Genesis and the New Testament in Tetun Dili, the national lingua franca of Timor-Leste, published in 2016 by Unit Bahasa dan Budaya (UBB) with translation by Wycliffe Bible Translators. ^[1] Tetun Dili (also called Tetun Prasa, from Portuguese praca meaning “town square”) is a creolized form of Tetun heavily influenced by Portuguese, which developed in the capital Dili during centuries of colonial contact. ^[2] It became one of Timor-Leste’s two official languages upon independence in 2002 and is distinct from Tetun Belu (Tetun Terik), the more conservative inland variety; the two are not fully mutually intelligible due to extensive Portuguese vocabulary in Tetun Dili. ^[2] The translation was produced from the original Greek text using meaning-based translation principles and is copyrighted by Wycliffe Timor-Leste. ^[3]
