Uripiv New Testament (UPVWBT)
Overview
The Uripiv New Testament, titled “Naul On Nga Mimerr Uripiv,” is a complete New Testament translation in the Uripiv dialect of the Uripiv-Wala-Rano-Atchin language, published in 1996 by Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1][2] Uripiv-Wala-Rano-Atchin is a dialect chain spoken on the small islands of Uripiv, Wala, Rano, and Atchin off the northeast coast of Malakula in Vanuatu, as well as on the adjacent mainland. [3] Malakula is one of the most linguistically diverse islands in Vanuatu, with approximately two dozen distinct languages. [4] Bible translation work in this language dates back to as early as 1893, with additional portions produced over the following century before the completed New Testament was published in 1996. [3] The translation was later made available through the Bible Society of the South Pacific and in digital formats. [2]
