Holy Bible: Modern Uzbek Translation (UZBIB2)
Overview
The Modern Uzbek Translation (“Муқаддас Китоб”) is the first complete Bible in the Uzbek language, published in 2016 by the Institute for Bible Translation (IBT) in cooperation with the Bible Society of Uzbekistan, SIL International, and the United Bible Societies. [1][2] Work on the modern Uzbek translation began in the mid-1970s in Sweden under IBT founder Borislav Arapovic, with the help of Uzbek scholars and speakers in Germany, Israel, and the United States, resulting in the publication of the New Testament, Genesis, and Psalms in 1992. [1][3] The remaining Old Testament translation and New Testament revision required 23 additional years, carried out primarily by native Uzbek scholars within Uzbekistan, and culminated in the official Bible presentation on June 1, 2017, in Tashkent. [1][2] The earliest known Uzbek Scripture work dates to 1891, when the British and Foreign Bible Society published the Four Gospels in Arabic script with the assistance of Russian orientalist Nikolai Ostroumov.
