Vagiri New Testament (VGRWFW)

Overview

The Vagiri New Testament (vernacular title: పవిత్ర్ బైబిల్‍) is a translation of the New Testament into the Vaghri language (ISO 639-3: vgr), written in Telugu script. It was published in 2024 by The Word for the World International in collaboration with Vagiri Nawa Jivan Kristi Madadi Telangana, India. The Vaghri (also known as Vaghari or Waghri) are a community found in the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat in India, as well as in Pakistan’s Sindh province. [1] The community’s name derives from “Vagh Ari” (tiger hunter), reflecting their historical identity as hunters and warriors. [1] The Vaghri speak their own language among themselves while using Gujarati and Hindi with outsiders. [1]
