Kisan New Testament

Kisan New Testament (XISWBT)

Overview

The Kisan New Testament is a translation of the 27 books of the New Testament into the Kisan language, written in Odia (Oriya) script. The Kisan people are a scheduled tribe of Odisha, India, concentrated primarily in the Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda districts. [1] The Kisan language belongs to the North Dravidian language family and is closely related to Kurukh (Oraon), reflecting the Kisan people’s historical origins as an offshoot of the Oraon tribe who migrated from the Nagpur area. [1] [2] Although the Kisan speak their own Dravidian language, they are also conversant in Odia and use the Odia script for writing, which is the script employed in this translation. [2]
