Yomgkom Bible (YONPNG)
Overview
Genesis, Psalms, and the New Testament in the Yongkom language of Papua New Guinea, published in 1995 with a revised edition in 2003. [1] The translation was carried out by Wycliffe Bible Translators in partnership with the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea. [1] Bible portions in Yongkom first appeared between 1965 and 1988, with the New Testament completed between 1995 and 2003. [2] The vernacular title is “God Ye Weng Karadmo.” The Yonggom people live in the Lower Ok Tedi area of the Western Province, in the foothills of the Star Mountains, a region that has been significantly affected by the Ok Tedi copper and gold mine since the 1980s. [3]
Language and People
Yongkom (ISO 639-3: yon), also known as Yonggom or Yongom, is an Ok language spoken by approximately 4,500 to 9,100 people in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea. [2] [3] The language has numerous dialects including Kabom, Kagaip, Kataut, Lower Yongkom, Moian, Northern Muyu, Southern Muyu, and others.
