Guinea-Bissau, officially the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Senegal to the north, Guinea to the south and east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The official language is Portuguese, with Crioulo and various African languages also spoken. Guinea-Bissau operates as a semi-presidential republic. The economy is primarily based on agriculture, with cashew nuts being the main export, along with fish and seafood. The country has experienced political instability since its independence from Portugal in 1973, with numerous coups and civil unrest. Despite its challenges, Guinea-Bissau is known for its rich biodiversity and the Bijagós Archipelago, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
