Tajikistan, officially the Republic of Tajikistan, is a landlocked country in Central Asia. It shares borders with Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and China to the east. Covering an area of approximately 143,100 square kilometers, it has a population of about 9.5 million people as of 2023. The capital and largest city is Dushanbe. The official language is Tajik, a variety of Persian written in the Cyrillic script. Tajikistan operates as a presidential republic. The economy is primarily based on agriculture, aluminum production, and remittances from citizens working abroad. Tajikistan is known for its mountainous terrain, with over 90% of its land area covered by mountains, including the Pamir range. The country is a member of international organizations such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
