Sudan, officially the Republic of the Sudan, is a country in Northeast Africa. Covering an area of approximately 1.86 million square kilometers, it has a population of about 50 million people as of 2023. The capital and largest city is Khartoum. The official languages are Arabic and English. Sudan operates as a federal provisional government following recent political changes. The economy is diverse, with key sectors including agriculture, mining, and oil production. Sudan is known for its rich cultural heritage, ancient history, and archaeological sites such as the pyramids of Meroë. The country is a member of international organizations such as the United Nations, the African Union, and the Arab League.
